In SPA, the rules for teams playing other teams out of their division are as follows. The "lower" team gets 5 runs (1 per the first 4 innings and 2 in the 5th) The game is played with the "lower" runs per inning and the "higher" HR rule
IMO , this makes it VERY hard for the "upper" team to win unless they do it in the opening inning.(one blank inning and its about over) I think it should be played under the "lower" HR rule and the "upper" runs per inning rule.
This would also make it more fair for the lower team (which doesn't hit as many HRS) and would give the "upper" team more chances to get back the five runs they had to give the "lower" team
I also think the 5 runs should be given at the start of the game to save all the confusion with the scorekeepers.
Please let me know what everyone thinks.
Just trying to make it better for everyone. Hopefully the masses will be heard one way or another.

We have to play upper teams in most tourneys so I see both sides. If you are a good upper team you will win far more than you lose. I like the rule as it is.

So you like the major hr rule? If that is so, why not play major? Just asking

Well, for the first time, we actually had to play both in the same tournament. As a AAA team, we played major rules when we played Major teams and AAA rules when we played AAA teams. The other AAA teams didn't do this. I do think you have a good idea though. All of that makes sense to me. That way, neither team concedes everything. Gives them both an opportunity to stay in the game.

I believe that ALL the 55 teams that played this weekend should be major. I hope we have a large turnout in Cullman.

If it was up to me, I would let teams play where they want to. If they have 2 great years in a row, then move them up. (place top 5 in Vegas for example 2 years in a row) I don't think that just because you are listed as a major plus player, (because your team placed in Vegas) that you shouldn't be able to play AAA or major ball. (especially if you drop down 2 age groups)
IMO the difference in AAA and major is the number of players on the team that can hit HRs. Most good AAA teams will hit 3-4 hrs a game, but they don't have the 6-8 HR hitters that the major teams have.
IMO, most all teams could play in the same division if you made it: 3 HR and one up, but the extra HRs would be outs (until the other team catches up with the HRs) This would give the teams that don't hit many HRs a chance and would allow the ones that hit lots of HRs to do so when they play another team that hits lots of Hrs. Making HRs over the limit walks, doesn't make the limit a deterrent. Have 2 divisions:
Lower ==== 3 hrs and one up (with outs) 5 runs per inning
Upper ==== 8 hrs with one up ( with walks) 7 runs per inning
If teams want to just hit HRS, let them play each other in the upper division. (would be like the open division of years ago) All the rest of us would have larger, more competitive tournaments.
